Passionate about gardening and wildlife conservation? Volunteer at East Midlands Parkway and Loughborough Stations

  • EMR seeking station adopters for East Midlands Parkway and Loughborough Station
  • Volunteers especially needed with interest in gardening and wildlife conservation

East Midlands Railway (EMR) is seeking volunteers to work on wildlife and gardening projects to help transform East Midlands Parkway and Loughborough Station.

The volunteers, called station adopters, will play a vital role in improving the surroundings of the station. From keeping an eye out for any unusual activity and reporting faults and issues to maintaining the gardens and ensuring the station is presentable, they make a huge difference to every single passenger.

East Midlands Parkway and Loughborough Station are particularly suited for volunteers passionate about gardening and wildlife conservation, with the opportunity to make a real difference to the local environment.

Kaye Robinson, Community Engagement Manager at East Midlands Railway, said: "Station adopters are a vital part of our railway and do amazing work to improve the station environment for our customers. We have more than 650 adopters across our network but are keen to boost the numbers at both Loughborough and East Midlands Parkway.

"These stations, in particular, have the potential to make a significant positive impact on their gardens and the local wildlife. So, if these areas interest you, or if you're looking for a fun and engaging way to get involved with the community, make new friends, learn a new skill, or take pride in your local station, then station adoption could be for you."

Station adoption is part of the community rail movement, a growing grassroots initiative spanning Britain. It comprises community rail partnerships, working along railway lines or across regions, as well as station adoption groups and other local organisations, all aiming to connect communities with their railways.

Anyone interested in becoming a station adopter can apply via EMR's website here  https://www.eastmidlandsrailway.co.uk/routes-destinations/adopt-a-station
