Customer information screens: EMR begins roll out of interactive versions

  • Interactive screens offer accessibility and local information - such as onward travel options and tourist information
  • Sheffield, Lincoln, Long Eaton, Loughborough, Market Harborough and Wellingborough first to get new screens
  • New screens will help customers better access and understand information during disruption

East Midlands Railway (EMR) has taken the next steps in rolling out a £1 million project to install 166 new customer information screen across its network.

The project, which is being rolled out working with suppliers Infotec and Thales, will involve fitting the screens at the main stations served by EMR.

The first interactive screens of the project have been installed at Sheffield, Lincoln, Long Eaton, Loughborough, Market Harborough and Wellingborough, with a further 15 interactive versions to be installed across the network in the coming months.

These interactive screens provide information for customers, including arrival and departure information, live journey details, local information, station information, details on local events and any live safety notices.

As well as this, customers can use these screens to plan journeys to and from any station, utilising Google Maps to find local directions and take those directions with them on a smartphone by scanning a QR code.

The project also includes replacing normal customer information screens and Nottingham is the most recent station to be upgraded with a new main bank of screens at the ticket gatelines.
